Patiala April 2:

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal announced that Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) would ''welcome'' any political party with the sole aim to defeat the Congress in the next assembly elections in the state.

Mr Badal stated this while speaking at a function organised here to pay homage to Akali leader 'Panth Rattan' Gurcharan Singh Tohra on his seventh death anniversary. Blaming the ill-conceived policies and programmes of the Congress led UPA government for putting all the states in a financial mess throughout the country, he called upon the people to join hands with SAD-BJP to give defeat to Congress in the coming elections.

The Chief Minister pointed out that Jathedar Tohra was a man of rare intellect and the SAD-BJP government would strive hard to cherish the aspirations of Jathedar Tohra as he was always keen to see the 'Shiromani Akali Dal' in power to serve the Punjabis. Education Minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan, senior Akali leader Prem Singh Chandumajra, former SGPC president Kirpal Singh Badunger, former SGPC and SAD president Jagdev Singh Talwandi was among others who spoke on the occasion.
