Chandigarh October 28:

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is not scared of former Chief Minister and newly-appointed Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Captain Amarinder Singh as people project, and is fully confidant of its performance during its regime in the State.

“Captain Amarinder is no challenge for us. He could not do anything when he was the Chief Minister, and what can he do as a party president. The people might over-estimate him and think that his presence can harm us but it is nothing like that,” SAD general secretary DS Cheema told reporters.

Cheema said: “This completely shows bankruptcy on the part of the Congress. They searched for three years and did not find anyone to head the party unit.” Cheema said: “Despite his all out efforts supporting his son Raninder Singh, during the previous Lok Sabha elections, on the Bathinda constituency seat, they were voted out by the people of the State.”

“We have served the people and fulfilled most of our promises that we made to them. Our policies are pro-people, be it urban or rural populace. They have seen us working for them, and they will make their decision accordingly,” he said. “We have been successful in fulfilling our commitments to the people. What we proposed, was opposed by most of the people initially, like Atta-Dal scheme, subsidies, Shagun scheme, and so on, but later on accepted by one and all.

We have given a boost to the power sector, recruited over 40,000 teachers, major projects have been set up in urban areas,” he added. Further, he said: “It’s true that Congress is our main competitor, but Captain Amarinder Singh is not going to make any difference to us. We will continue the same way.”
