Though Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal are claiming that SAD-BJP coalition is actually a single party, party workers beg to differ.
After SAD decided to field Ranjit Singh Talwandi in Khanna, the local BJP wing announced that they will not support ‘outsider’ Talwandi. Around five of 10 SAD councillors in Khanna Municipal Council are upset with this decision. Talwandi is seen trying to convince BJP councillors to join his campaign.
A disgruntled BJP councillor said, “In the last elections, SAD’s Bikramjit Singh Khalsa won and completely ignored BJP workers later. And this time, when the seat became available for general candidates, SAD fielded an Independent. We are certainly not welcoming Talwandi.”
The situation is similar in Ludhiana west and central from where BJP is yet to field candidates. Ravinderpal Singh Khalsa, who resigned from SAD said: “I worked for years in the inner city, which is BJP’s constituency, but whenever a BJP MLA was elected, he would not recommend SAD workers’ names for important posts. So we are certainly not happy with BJP.” SAD workers in Ludhiana North, where Harish Bedi is the sitting MLA from BJP, said that the local MLA never helped them in their day to day works and never recommended their names anywhere.
“This is the position of SAD workers in BJP constituencies all across the state. The party never tried to sort out this suffocation within the party,” said Jatinderpal Singh Saluja, who also resigned from SAD. However local bodies minister Tikshan Sood and even BJP state president Ashwini Sharma had repeatedly stated that they are one party and there are no differences anywhere.
