The district police authorities have initiated a move to reach out to the newly elected sarpanches and panchayat members and seek their support for ensuring law and order in villages.
“The underlying idea behind the exercise is to prevent the occurrence of criminal activities at the villages,” said Rohtak SP Shashank Anand.
Taking a cue from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s programmes like ‘Chai par Charcha’ and ‘Mann ki Baat’, the local police officers have been assigned specific responsibilities under the outreach campaign.
As part of the drive, DSP Amit Dahiya yesterday visited the Sampla police station, where he met the newly elected sarpanches of the Sampla block in the district. The deliberations at the meeting focused on the prevention of crime in the villages and effective implementation of development projects.
Dahiya maintained that during the meeting, a consensus was reached on constitution of community-liaison groups (CLGs) in all villages of the Sampla block.
“Prominent residents of the given village and former government officials residing there would be made members of the group, which will try to settle disputes such as property matters and matrimonial issues through mutual consent,” he asserted.
Likewise, committees comprising women residents would also be formed to settle the matters pertaining to women. The DSP also exhorted the sarpanches to support the police in keeping a check on the unlawful activities such as gambling, sale of liquor and narcotic drugs.
