Around 1,500 passengers boarded a special train (04908) from Chandigarh to Anand Vihar today, the first one to ply from the city to New Delhi after four days due to the Jat agitation in Haryana.
As a gesture of goodwill, to accommodate passengers who got information about this special train late, the authorities started the train half an hour behind the announced time of 4 pm. The train was packed to capacity.
As a security measure, the RPF and the GRPF sent security personnel on this special train, which took the Ambala, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut City and Ghaziabad route.
Ambala Divisional Railway Manager Dinesh Kumar said tomorrow also, a special train would ply from Chandigarh to Anand Vihar. He said the track from Panipat to Ambala was fine but as protesters were still creating a ruckus in some parts, no train was being plied on this route as a precautionary measure.
Sources said the rail traffic on this track would be restored after an inspection of the rail track between Sonepat and Panipat by Delhi Division and clearance from the state.
For passengers’ convenience, 12 civil defence personnel were deployed at the station to guide them about the train and assist them in getting seats.
