Hyderabad: The area bordering Andhra and Telangana in Nalgonda district resembled a battle zone as the indefinite strike, observed by all sections of Telangana demanding a separate state, entered its third week — with no sign of any progress on the side of the central government.

Angry Telangana agitators attacked buses coming from Vijayawada to Hyderabad, pelting more than 20 buses with stones and shattering their windows.

Police had to use baton sticks in an attempt to break up the protests, which had resulted in a massive traffic jam on National Highway No 7.

However, Nakrekal inspector of police Vishwa Prasad was injured after being hit on the forehead by a stone.

Feeling betrayed

Angered by the fact that Andhra-based travel agencies were servicing routes normally plied by Roads Transport Corporation drivers who were on strike, the protesters stopped buses at Nakrekal, Choutuppal and many other places.

After being grounded for several hours, the buses finally left for Hyderabad under tight police security.

Meanwhile, in yet another indication of growing frustration among the Telangana Congress leadership, S. Satyanarayana, the party's MLA from Ramagundam, announced that he will quit the assembly today. Satyanarayana becomes the third Congress MLA to announce his resignation, after minister K. Venkat Reddy and fellow MLA Lingaiah.

Satyanarayana said several other Telangana Congress leaders were also planning to resign as the centre was not willing to take any decision quickly.

"Unless we bring pressure the centre was not going to do any thing", he said.
