New Delhi: India's ruling Congress party general secretary Rahul Gandhi is all set to start a series of roadshows in Uttar Pradesh to woo Muslim voters to support the party in the forthcoming elections.

According to a tentative scheduled finalised by the state unit of the party, Gandhi will cover five routes, starting on November 1, passing through dense Muslim hamlets and town and address public meetings in seven towns over the month.

Getting Muslim support is crucial in the Congress party's game plan to regain the ground lost due to a series of corruption scandals hounding the Congress party-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the centre.

Uttar Pradesh is slated to elect its new 403-member legislative assembly in April-May next year

Gandhi will all probably start his roadshow, named Jan Sampark Abhiyan (people-connect campaign) from the state capital Lucknow.

He will hold special meetings at Bareilly, Azamgarh, Aligarh, Lucknow and Lakhimpur — all considered hub of Muslim politics in the state — address public meetings at Etah, Fatehpur, Mainpuri, Bulandshahr, Jalaun, Allahabad, Kheri, Bahraich, Balrampur, Ballia and Agra.

Muslim support is essential for the Congress party to make a respectable show in the country's most populous state.
