Moments after BJP spokespersons today questioned the foreign travel of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi ahead of the Bihar elections, the party today said he was at Aspen in Colorado (US) for an international show.
“Rahul Gandhi is attending a global conference—Weekend with Charlie Rose. It is an internationally renowned private conference organised and piloted by famous journalist Charlie Rose. The conference, by invitation only, is scheduled to be held between September 24 and 28. It brings together select group of leaders from the worlds of business, politics, media, finance, technology, sports, science, medicine and arts for a weekend of thought-provoking conversations and activities,” Congress’ media chairman Randeep Surjewala said.
Interestingly, the Aspen institute, where Rahul has to attend the conference, has among its board of trustees Cong MP Shashi Tharoor. He attacked the BJP for launching a campaign against Rahul. The party’s statement left little scope for confusion about Rahul’s absence, he said.
