Thiruvananthapuram: A surprise visit by Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra to Thrissur in Kerala on Wednesday proved to be a nightmare for journalists with the scions SPG security personnel shoving the hacks around and assaulting a lensman.The injured cameraman,P K Prasanth,of Thrissur Television Pvt Ltd,was admitted to hospital.Thrissur Press Club president Joy M Mannur said he had complained of temporary loss of breath and difficulty in urinating.Rahul and Priyanka were in Thrissur for the wedding of the son of Madhavan Namboodhiri,personal secretary to Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
The private visit was not known to the state police or the local Congress leadership until they landed at the Nedumbassery airport in Kochi.Thrissur SP M P Dinesh said,I had no information on the visit before their arrival. As the two walked into the marriage venue,guests stared in disbelief.Soon the media gathered there to catch a glimpse of Rahul and Priyanka.
The SPG guards started pushing around the lensmen as they tried to take pictures.Prasanth was hit in the abdomen with a metal detector.
