Chandigarh May 26:

In view of the forthcoming State Assembly elections, the Punjab Youth Congress has decided to woo the State’s youth to be a part of the Congress party that may play a significant role in party campaign.

As per the directions of AICC General Secretary in-charge Rahul Gandhi, the party will start its membership drive in the State from May 28 where the senior leaders of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) and Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president will inaugurate the drive from Congress Bhawan in Chandigarh.

It is expected that All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary, IYC in-charge and Alwar MP Jitendra Singh, IYC president Rajiv Satav and PPCC chief and former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh will grace the occasion and start the drive.

Punjab Youth Congress chief Ravnit Bittu said that the membership drive will last for 28 days only. “Last time when this drive was undertaken, Punjab Youth Congress enrolled around 3.5 lakh members and this time we will achieve target of more than 10 lakh members. This is a democratic process and it is fully transparent,” he said.

Requesting the youth of Punjab to participate in this drive and make it successful, Bittu said, “That it was only due to this drive and subsequent elections that Rahul Gandhi gave tickets to the youth of the State and even I became president of Youth Congress and then Member of Parliament.” He appealed to the youth to turn up at Chandigarh on May 28 and listen to the senior leaders and make this drive a big success.
