Punjab to set up drug prevention board

Jagraon May 5:

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal announced to set up a Drug Prevention Board to wean away the state's youth from the menace of drug addiction in the state.

The announcement comes in the wake of an indefinite hunger strike by the Punjab Youth Congress activists, led by their state president and MP Ravneet Singh Bittu, in Ludhiana since May one to press their demand for formation of a Drug Prevention Board. Interacting with media persons during his Sangat Darshan programme here, Mr Badal said that the newly-created board would effectively tackle the problem of drug addiction which was growing at alarming rate in the state.

He said that it was the foremost duty of the government to motivate the youth to channelise their unbounded energy in a constructive manner. He said the SAD-BJP government had taken several initiatives to promote sports among the youth in a big way as sports not only inculcated the spirit of sportsmanship, self discipline and comraderie.
