PUNJAB TO RECRUIT 247 DOCTORS, SAYS CHAWLA


Chandigarh August 9:
The Punjab Government has evolved a massive plan to strengthen the existing health care services in the State by appointing 100 medical officers and 147 doctors of various specializations.
Stating this here, Lakshmi Kanta Chawla, Health and Family Welfare Minister, said that there was shortage of 600 doctors in Punjab and the Health Department had been given approval to immediately fill 247 posts of doctors. Keeping in view, the acute shortage of doctors in the State in general, and in Malwa region in particular, she said that doctors would be appointed for this region on a priority basis.
Referring to the steps taken by the Government towards child and maternal care, Chawla said that the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) in Punjab was 49 in contrast to 60 of the country.
