Jalandhar October 25:

The Punjab government is all set to increase bus fares in the state by 10 paise per km. In a chat with reporters here today , Transport Minister Master Mohan Lal said that a proposal prepared by his department in this regard had been sent to the cabinet for its approval.

The neighbouring Haryana had already increased the fare by 10 paise per km and had even implemented the new tariff. The Minister said the city bus service being run by the municipal corporations of Amritsar, Jalandhar and Ludhiana would be taken over by the Department of Transport as the Department of Local Bodies had failed to run the service in an efficient manner for want of maintenance staff, experience and workshop.

He said PUNBUS and the Punjab Roadways would ply their buses in Jalandhar, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Mohali while PUNBUS and Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) would provide city bus service in the Malwa region.
