Punjab to beef up highway patrolling

The Punjab police has chalked out a comprehensive plan to strengthen Highway Patrolling on all national as well as state highways to keep a tab on highway robbers.

According to an official spokesman, all District Police Chiefs have been instructed to submit their plan of action and requirement of motorcycle to professionally strengthen Highway Patrolling. Inspector General Provisioning has been asked to finalise a prototype of Highway Patrolling Motorcycle equipped with various communication, first aid and security gadgets and supply these fully equipped bikes to the districts as per requirements.

The spokesman said that DGP P S Gill has ordered to integrate Highway Patrolling with PCR Patrolling of every district and draw out an integration plan to catch the culprits without any delay. The Highway Patrol parties would man the strategic points including accident prone points on all Highways and work for prompt and efficient evacuation of accident victims.

The Highway Patrolling parties would also halp in managing the traffic flow in case of any impediment in the traffic due to unforeseen circumstances. A special training course including training in first-aid for the Highway Patrolling Parties was also being organised by the Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur, the spokesman said.
