PUNJAB POLICE PLANS PRESENTATION ON TERROR

Chandigarh September 19:
Within a week of the serial blasts in Delhi, Punjab DG NPS Aulakh has decided to sensitise the state police about the issue.
Accordingly, Punjab police is planning to make a presentation of about 20 minutes meant for district police superintendents, deputy inspectors general (DIGs, range) and zonal inspectors general, along with senior IPS officers, who have been called for the Friday meeting on crime in Punjab Police headquarters. This is first such meeting of DG with the officers after nearly four months.
The presentation would contain detailed references to the bomb blasts in Punjab and the state police’s findings in these cases, sources told reporters. Besides, the officers would be apprised of the findings about the recent serial bomb blasts in Banglore, Ahmedabad and New Delhi. Sources added that interrogation report on Shingar cinema bomb blast case in Ludhiana would also be shared with top police officials of the state.
Sources said that details about bombs used in Delhi blasts would also be discussed with top officers. “The danger is real,” said an intelligence agency official. The presentation would seek to make the officer aware of the modus operandi of these groups, ‘‘The last few catches in the state were similar to the one found in Delhi. These comprised aluminium nitride sticks, basically used for mining activities and are India-made,’’ said an officer.
Sources in agencies also said that their alert is also based on the fact that IT industry is being made a target. The state police have increased their vigil on radical groups here, particularly those having sympathies with the Islamic terrorist groups and outfits, they added.
