<hr color="lightblue" noshade="noshade"> CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Government proposes to boost farm sector production through a series of measures such as sponsoring overseas visits by farmers’ groups at State Government expanse to upgrade their scientific knowledge and skills in the diverse fields of agriculture.
CM lists Govt.’ priorities Addressing a gathering of farmers after inaugurating a two-day ‘Kisan Mela’ organised by Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) at Ludhiana on Thursday, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal listed the priorities of his government and disclosed that the World Bank had already approved marketing facilitation programme to assist the farmers in marketingof their produce.
According to an official release, Mr. Badal also mentioned that the PAU in collaboration with the State Agriculture Department would soon envisage a programme to issue Soil Health Cards to all the farmers and help retain or improve the fertility and texture of the soil by ensuring a judicious use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides.
Mr. Badal used the opportunity to hit out at the Central Government, “whose arbitrary and anti-farm sector polices were directly responsible for the miserable economic condition of the farming community”.
He demanded linking the Minimum Support Price (MSP) with the wholesale consumer price index to ensure better and remunerative returns to agricultural produce.
