Punjab Notifies Policy For Admission To B.ed And Ll.b Courses

The Punjab Government has notified its policy for admission to Colleges of Education and Law Colleges. This was stated by Dr. Upinderjit Kaur, Education, Civil Aviation, Vigilance & Justice Minister, Punjab here today.
The entrance test for B.Ed. would be held by Punjabi University, Patiala on 1st June 2008 which will cover 163 Colleges of Education affiliated to Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Punjab University, Chandigarh and Punjabi University, Patiala. A total number of 20220 seats in these colleges would be filled up through the entrance test for which counseling would be held in two rounds between 8th July to 15th August and 15th August to 15th September 2008. Total 85% of the seats would be filled out of applicants belonging to Punjab State and 15% on All India basis.
The minister added that admission to B.A.LL.B, LLB and B.A.LL.B (Honours) would also be held on the basis of entrance test to be conducted by Punjabi University, Patiala at Abohar, Bathinda, Amritsar, Sangrur, Patiala, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Muktsar, Chandigarh and at other places to be notified by the Punjabi University, Patiala besides Ambala Cantt, Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Pune, Secunderabad and Kolkatta.
This entrance test would cover 22 law colleges affiliated to Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Punjab University, Chandigarh and Punjabi University, Patiala with a total intake of 3048 seats. The counseling would take place in two phases. The dates of counseling would also be notified by the Punjabi University, Patiala .
The Education Minister said that Indian Institute of Science Education and Research has started functioning from Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration, Chandigarh. The land for the Institute has been provided by Punjab Government at knowledge city Mohali where the institute would construct its own campus.
She further briefed that Punjab Vidhan Sabha had passed Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University Act-2008. Under the act SGPC would establish the proposed Sri Guru Granth World University at Fatehgarh Sahib with 9 schools in different areas of sciences, social sciences and emerging technologies.
She further briefed that a Premier Management Institute is also being set-up at knowledge city Mohali in public-private participation mode. She also said that Rs 8 crore has been released to Govt. Colleges for up-gradation and strengthening of infrastructure. Two new multi-faculty colleges would also be set-up at Sardulgarh in Distt. Mansa and Village Mithra in Distt. Kapurthala.
The Education Minister told that the state govt. would bring out an ordinance to amend the Punjab Official Languages Act to make Punjabi an official language in all school, colleges and universities as also the civil administration and judicial courts subordinate to the Punjab & Haryana High Court in the State of Punjab.
