Rajpura April 24:

A man from this town in Punjab's Patiala district, working in Australia, was found murdered in his house in Melbourne, according to information received by his family here.

Lakhwinder Singh, who had migrated to Australia in 2007 with his wife, had moved to Melbourne in Victoria province only two months back. He was earlier living in Brisbane in Queensland. "We got a phone call yesterday (Friday) from our relative that Lakhwinder had died. This was shocking for us. We have no details of the incident," his brother Kulwinder Singh said.
According to the Melbourne police, unidentified assailants had forced their way into Lakhwinder's house and stabbed him to death. Lakhwinder, in his early 30s, was working as a helper in a farm near Melbourne and expected to return to India within a few days. His wife, Beant Kaur, had come back from Australia earlier April.

"We are too shocked. I don't know how this has happened so suddenly. He had no enimity with anyone," his distraught wife said here. "We appeal to the Indian government to help us procure a visa so that family members can go to Melbourne to get back his body for cremation," Kulwinder Singh said.
