Punjab farmers block rail traffic

On a "Rail Roko"call given by seven farmers unions, hundreds of farmers blocked rail traffic on Amritsar--Ludhiana and Jammu-Ludhiana rail sections and organised a dharna on railway track. The agitating farmers stopped Katihar bound 5708DN Amarpauli Express at Phagwara Railway Station.
Meanwhile several down line trains could not proceed from Amritsar while UP line trains were terminated at Ludhiana Railway Station. The terminated trains included 8103UP/8104DN Tata Express,2497UP/2498DN Amritsar-Delhi- Shane-Punjab Express,2029UP/2030DN Shatawadi Express, 2919UP/2920DN Malwa Express were again proceeded for their down line destinations from Ludhiana Railway station,while remainig down line trains could not proceed from Amritsar and Jammu due to this farmers agitation.
A Protest Rally was organised by farmers, which was adressed by various Union Leaders including Kirti Kisan Union State President Nirbhair singh,Kisan Sangharash Committee president Satnam singh Pannu and KKU leader Jatinder Singh Chhinna. They threatened to intensify the agitation,if their long standing demands could not be accepted. They were demanding waiving of loans,sufficient price of agriculture products,sufficient supply of DAP ureaand payment of the balance amount of cane growers.
They strongly condemned the arrests of several farmers leaders who were taken into custody as preventive measures taken by the police. Meanwhile Railway Sources told this correspondent that 1058DN Amritsar-Dadar Express remained strandard at Jalandhar Cantt railway Station,while some others were strandard at Goraya, Phillaur, Kartarpur, Chiherru, Ladhuwal railway Stations On the other hand, rail passengers had to suffer a lot of inconveniance due to Rail Roko agitation of the farmers.
