PUNJAB ENHANCES ALLOWANCE FOR BLIND STUDENTS



Chandigarh November 10:
The Punjab Government has enhanced the current allowance from Rs.600 to Rs.1200 per child per month for visually handicapped children of the blind school, Jamalpur situated in district Ludhiana.
Disclosing this here, Social Security and Welfare of Women and Child Development Minister Swarna Ram said that Rs.40 lakh Braille press, library and digital studio has been set up in the institute for the welfare of blind students. Books in Braille script are published here and distributed free of cost to the blind students up to the age of 18 years. It was also decided to upgrade this institute 10+2 school which was at present a high level, according to an official release here.
The Minister informed that a team of senior officers was being deputed to visit the institute for blind in Dehra Dun to study their set up so that it could be replicated in such institutes in the State.
