PUNJAB CONGRESS HAILS VERDICT ON OBC QUOTA


Chandigarh April 13:
The Punjab Pradesh Congress has welcomed the Supreme Court's decision for providing 27 per cent quota to OBC students in higher educational institutions.
Punjab Congress president and Leader of Opposition Rajinder Kaur Bhattal in a statement on Saturday said the Congress party had always stood for equality, social justice and upliftment of downtrodden and poor sections of societ. The UPA Government under the leadership of its Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had enacted law to provide for 27 per cent reservation in higher educational institutions supported by the Centre.
She said Congress party had given due representation to other backward classes at every platform, be it Office of President where Late Giani Jail Singh was given the honour by the party. Bhattal said that with this landmark judgment on OBC quota, the stand of UPA Government has been vindicated and on implementation would benefit socially, educationally and economically backward sections of society.
