Punjab cities all set to get a facelift



Chandigarh: The “mini metros” of Punjab, including Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Amritsar, are all set for a transformation as the Government has put in place a new model of urban development.
The Government has constituted Urban Planning and Development Authorities to give a facelift to major cities like Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Bathinda, Patiala and SAS Nagar Mohali, officials said here.
These cities will implement plans for infrastructure upgradation that could amount to an estimated investment of Rs. 10,980 crore and separately engage international consultancy agencies for making master plans for other 40 major towns of the State, the officials said.
The State Government has also put in place a special development plan for Ludhiana city to be implemented at a cost of Rs. 2,053 crore. A Rs. 3,150 crore plan for integrated development of Amritsar has already been approved.
Asian Development Bank has shown its keenness to be an active partner in implementing the ambitious plan of linking Sri Harmandir Sahib with Raja Sansi airport by monorail, officials said. The Government is seeking funds from the Centre. PTI
