The governor took salute at the parade and the function saw participation of Punjab Police, Punjab Armed Police, traffic police, Punjab police commandoes, NCC cadets and school children. Addressing the gathering, Patil said, "Punjab is treading on the path of rapid development and many big MNCs have established their offices in this state. Many new jobs and opportunities have been created in the state during the last one year."

A colourful procession of floats was one of the major attractions for spectators, who had thronged at the parade venue. Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal hoisted the tricolour at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium in the border town of Ferozepur. Badal exhorted the people to become active partners in the state's progress.

This year would witness the completion of Rs.20,000 crore Bathinda refinery besides dedication of five thermal plants, with combined cost of Rs.62,000 crore," said Badal.
