Chandigarh March 27:

The Punjab Assembly unanimously passed a resolution denouncing all the riots that have taken place across the country in the past and sought action against those involved in it -- directly or indirectly.

It was SAD MLA Harpreet Singh, who had moved a resolution seeking unanimous approval of the House to denounce the tragic incidents of November 1984 Haudh Chilhar carnage of Sikh's in Haryana. The resolution also demanded stringent action against the persons involved directly or indirectly in carrying out this "dastardly carnage."

This resolution had set the stage for a lively debate during the last sitting of the House before it adjourned sine-die. However, after about a three-hours debate, the Congress succeeded in unanimously passing a resolution denouncing the riots and killing of innocents across the country. The Congress supported the resolution and condemned the killings.
