NEW DELHI: A 13-year-old school kid staged his own kidnapping after he was upset with his mother who had punished him the previous night. The incident took place on Friday in east Delhi's Sukh Vihar. According to the police, no case has been registered against the boy.

The minor's mother said that her son, a class IX student at a public school in Lakhsmi Nagar, left home on Friday evening saying that he was going for tuitions. Around five in the evening, the family received a call informing them that their child had been kidnapped following which the police were informed.

"We traced the call to a PCO booth in the Tilak Bridge area. The attendant told us that he remembered seeing a boy with a school bag speak over the phone to someone. Apparently, the boy was trying to hide his own voice. We got suspicious and began questioning others around the PCO. A food stall owner said that a boy had bought food from him and his description exactly matched with that of the missing teenager," said a senior police officer.

Even as the police was combing the area for him, the minor himself returned home around 8.30 pm.

"On the requests made by his parent, relatives and neighbours, we did not lodge any FIR against him. He said that he was fearing more punishment from his mother for not obeying her and decided to flee home. But, he felt afraid and returned," added the officer.

The teenager lives with his mother who is a school teacher and uncle. He had lost his father a few years ago.
