The UT police today arrested the contractual employee, Pooja Bagga, along with two of her accomplices, who was booked earlier this month for fraudulently withdrawing around Rs 2.8 crore from the university funds. They will be produced in court tomorrow.
Police officials said Pooja, her husband Jatinder Singh and Baljinder Singh had been arrested. The police claim that the duo was Pooja’s accomplices. Raids were being conducted to arrest Pooja’s remaining accomplices, they said.
An FIR was registered on a complaint of Panjab University Chief Security Officer Jitender Grover on September 6 after Pooja was indicted in an internal probe conducted by the PU authorities.
The inquiry committee of Panjab University, which is looking into the financial bungling in the pension cell, has already detected financial irregularities of over Rs 2 crore. The PU has already recovered Rs 92 lakh.
A complaint was submitted by the PU authorities to the UT police on September 6 following which a case was registered at the Sector 11 police station. The investigation was transferred to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the UT police.
Pooja had applied for anticipatory bail in the District Courts, which was dismissed on September 16.
