HISAR: The Hisar Central Jail is in the eye of the storm once again. It was recently in the news after an alleged medicine scam was unearthed there and due to the inmates' hunger strike to protest the poor quality of food along with rationing of generator facilities.

However, this time, it is being reported that a notorious criminal was running his nefarious activities from within the jail
premises. In fact, he allegedly demanded ransom from traders by calling on their phones.

A police team, led by Hisar SP Sibash Kabiraj, raided the jail premises on Wednesday evening after it was confirmed from the computerized call records that the ransom calls were made from the jail.

Rajesh Luhari, who is a notorious criminal from Luhari village of the district, had been making ransom calls to
trader Sharvan Kumar on his mobile.

Luhari even threatened Kumar with dire consequences in case his demands were not met.
"Rajesh made four calls to Sharvan Kumar between May 25 and 27 and demanded ransom. The police have
registered a case at Narnaund police station and taking the threats seriously, provided adequate security cover to Kumar,"said SP Kabiraj, while talking to The Times of India. "When the police checked computerized call details,
it was confirmed that all these calls were made from within the jails premises,"he added.

A police party comprising SP Sibash Kabiraj, DSP (City), Hisar, inspector of the CIA staff and a large number of cops descended on the jails premises and surrounded all the barracks.

Sources said that the cops frisked all the inmates but could not find anything objectionable. Only last week, the police had raided the jail and found a mobile phone and some opium in a bag, which had apparently been thrown from outside.
Some used SIM cards were also seized.

The SP said a criminal case had been registered against Rajesh Luhari on the complaint of Kumar and the police was investigating the matter.
