Police conducts mock drill on eve of Prince Charles visit

Punjab police conducted a mock security drill around the New Moti Bagh Palace, the private residence of former chief minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, on the eve of private visit of the heir to British throne Prince Charles and his wife Camilla Parker Bowles, Duchess of Cornwall.

An official spokesman here today said that about 8 PCR vans have been put around the residence along with heavy security arrangement and all the route from the Patiala airport to the New Moti Bagh Palace. The security personals and traffic sleuths have put into force all the en route, he said.

The inspector general of Police Patiala Zone Paramjit Singh Gill has been supervising the security of royal couple's visit to the city as they were declared as the state guests by the Punjab Government, the spokesman added. Media has been kept away from the visit of the duo and is not even allowed at airport where Prince Charles is scheduled to arrive at 1730 hours. Only eight persons will be available at the airport to receive Prince Charles, said the spokesman.

He will be received by Information and Public Relations minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan alongwith Capt. Amarinder Singh. The mayor of Patiala municipal corporation Ajitpal Singh Kohli will be the only other politician to receive Prince Charles. Duchess of Cornwall Camilla Parker Bowles will land here at 1530 hours and she will be received by Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur.
