CHANDIGARH: A Public Interest Litigation has sought a probe by the Haryana government into a dispute pertaining to a village girl's school where due to “misdeeds of the khap pan- chayat, the studies of students were suffering“.

Petitioner Dalbir Singh stat- ed that the managing commit- tee of Kanya Gurukul in Shadipur Julana villge in Jind was elected for three years and for three terms, M.S. Lathar was elected president and undertook developmental works.

Several persons who were not finding ways to get elect- ed devised other ways to usurp powers, he alleged, saying they attacked the president and his son on March 30.

An FIR was registered.

A news report published on April 21 stated that the Lather Behra khap panchayat put pres- sure demanding appointment of the school administrator and gave an ultimatum of 10 days.

The petitioner submitted representations against these orders to the DGP, Jind Deputy Commissioner and SP.

On May 19, he said, the khap forced the girl students to leave, due to which some parents stopped sending their wards.
