Chandigarh October 26:

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal extended his warm greetings to the people of Punjab on the auspicious occasion of Diwali--the festival of lights.

In a message on this auspicious occasion, the Chief Minister said that Diwali was one of the most colorful and captivating festivals of India that provided us an occasion for rejoicing and merriment. ''This festival is a celebration of the victory of light over darkness, good over evil and hope over despair,'' he added.

In his message, eputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said Diwali marked the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after victory in the battle with Ravana and it symbolized the ultimate victory of virtue over vice and triumph of good over evil. The Sikh community, he said, celebrated Diwali to mark the safe return of the sixth Guru, Guru Hargobind Sahib along with 52 other kings from Mughal detention from Gwalior Fort in 1619.
