PANCHAYAT OFFICER ARRESTED ON CORRUPTION CHARGES

Ludhiana June 24:
The Vigilance Bureau (VB) sleuths arrested a Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) at Sudhar for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from two panchayat secretaries.
The arrested BDPO has been identified as Manoj Kumar Tandon. According to VB sources, two panchayat secretaries Baljinder Singh and Gurjeet Singh had complained about the BDPO, alleging that he had been demanding Rs 50,000 for giving the government land on lease.
Sources said that recently the government land in about 12 villages had been leased out to some persons and BDPO Tandon had to finalise the process. But he started demanding Rs 50,000 from these two panchayat secretaries, who reported the matter to the Vigilance Bureau. The VB laid a trap to arrest the BDPO. The panchayat secretaries settled the deal with Tandon at Rs 25,000 and today when they went to give him the money, a VB team led by VB DSP Gurcharan Singh and DSP Lovedeep Singh arrested Tandon red-handed.
