PAK MAY HAND OVER FISHERMAN'S BODY

Amritsar March 22:
Even as India on Friday expressed gratitude to Pakistan for putting off hanging of Sarabjit Singh, Pakistan is likely to hand over the body of Laxman, an Indian prisoner who died in Landhi jail of Karachi to India. On March 10, India had handed over the body of Pakistani national Khalid Mehmood from Attari border, leading to a lot of resentment in the neighbouring country, especially after Kashmir Singh's celebrated return.
Talking to TOI over the phone from Islamabad on Friday, Pakistani human rights minister Ansar Burney said Laxman (29), a fishermen, was arrested by Pakistan's coastal guards after his boat drifted into its territorial waters. He was undergoing sentence in Landhi jail since February 10, 2006.
Laxman, son of Kanji and a resident of Gujarat, had developed some abdominal problem and died in the jail on Thursday, said Burney, who has also ordered an inquiry into his death. "Laxman's body is likely to be handed over to India in two to four days," the minister added. Burney had faced severe criticism after Pakistani media lashed out against him when he failed to turn up to receive Mehmood's body at Attari land border.
