Hyderabad: The condition of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi was stable on Monday and there was considerable improvement in his condition compared to the day before.

Thirty-eight-year-old Owaisi was seriously injured in a firing and stabbing by a group of miscreants in Barkas area of his Chandrayangutta constituency on Saturday.

Dr Ravi Raj, director, medical education of Andhra Pradesh, told reporters that after a second successful operation, there was improvement in his blood pressure and pulse. The functioning of his kidneys has also improved.

However, he continued to be on ventilator support and doctors were keeping him on dialysis. During the day there was movement in his hands and doctors said that he was likely to regain consciousness soon.

Doctors have clarified that there is still one bullet in his body and no attempt was made to remove it as it did not pose any immediate serious threat. "We have not thought of operating upon the affected left kidney," Dr Ravi Raj said. To another question he said there was no need for any foreign specialist to be called as Owaisi was getting the best available medical care.

Surrender

Meanwhile, five more suspects in the murderous attack on the MLA surrendered yesterday.

They include Dahlan, Esa, Yahya, Fazal and Faisal Yafai. Hyderabad police commissioner A.K. Khan said that they have already arrested the prime suspect, Mohammad Pehlwan, while another person, Ebrahim Yafai, was killed in the police firing in self-defence when the group attacked the MLA.
