Chennai, July 8: Overnight rains lashed Chennai and its suburbs with residents waking up to overcast skies and cool weather.
The weather office predicted partly cloudy skies with possibility of rain or thunderstorm in Chennai for the next 24 hours and said the city had recorded a rainfall of 3.5 mm in the last 24 hours.
Further, isolated light to moderate rain may occur over all the districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, Met office said.
Meanwhile, southwest monsoon has been active over North Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the Met office said, adding, rainfall occurred at most places over Coastal Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, at many places over interior Karnataka, Kerala and over Lakshadweep and at a few places over Rayalaseema.
Isolated rainfall occurred over Tamil Nadu, it added.
