Needing 95 for victory, Sri Lankan openers gave their side a solid start as they quickly reached 50 without any loss of wicket.

An inspired performance by the bowlers helped Sri Lanka bowl India out for 338 in the second innings of the first Test at Galle. Sri Lanka now need to score 95 runs to win the match and take 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Pragyan Ojha became the last Indian batsman to get out as Muralitharan got his 800th wicket of the Test cricket.

Laxman also did not last long after the lunch as he was run-out on 69, leaving India on the verge of defeat.

VVS Laxman slammed a resilient half-century to deny Sri Lanka a victory in the morning session. At lunch India were 292/8 with Laxman playing on 58 and Ishant Sharma was on 18.

As whole world wait for Muralitharan’s 800th wicket, Lasith Malinga picked up the wicket of Abhimanyu Mithun with a perfect Yorker that struck straight to the batsman’s leg.

India, meanwhile, overtook Sri Lanka’s first innings total which means Sri Lanka have to bat again to win the match.

Harbhajan Singh became Muttiah Muralitharan’s 799th victim in Test cricket after he was trapped in front of the wickets.

Lasith Malinga took Sri Lanka off to an ideal start as he cleaned up skipper MS Dhoni in his very first over of the day. Dhoni was bowled by a beautiful Malinga delivery for just 4.

Just two short of completing his 800 wickets in Test cricket, Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan began proceedings on the fifth and final day of the first Test match between India and Sri Lanka being played here at the Galle International Stadium.
