On Dashami, Jammu housewife kills jihadi with axe

JAMMU:
As the country bid farewell to goddess Durga, the demon-slayer, on Dashami and witnessed the evil king Ravana being vanquished on Dussehra, a humble Muslim woman in a remote Jammu village slew a dreaded Lashkar terrorist single-handedly.

Exhibiting astonishing, raw courage, Rashida Begum took on the two terrorists who had barged into her home late Sunday night in Thana Mandi village in Rajouri district. The woman, in her early forties, grabbed an axe and swung it wildly, killing one of the armed terrorists and injuring the other. Seeing his partner meet a bloody end, the other terrorist fled in sheer dread.

A Rajouri-based police officer said the two terrorists of Lashkar-e-Taiba, the Pakistan-based group that carried out the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, had entered Noor Ahmad's home around 9pm with the intention of holding the family hostage.

Police said the two also wanted information on some local targets that Noor and his family members refused to provide. Angered by the resistance, the two began beating them up, threatening to eliminate the family, when Noor's wife, Rashida, took them by surprise, pouncing on one of them from behind. She brought down an axe in powerful blows, killing the terrorist on the spot.

She then charged at his partner who, nonplussed, was trying to gather his wits. Rashida and the rest of the family members soon overpowered him and snatched his weapon. However, the terrorist escaped under the cover of darkness, but not before receiving sharp cuts in the face-off with the furious housewife.

Rajouri's additional superintendent of police Shabir Ahmed said investigations were on establish to identity of the duo but the slain terrorist was believed to be Osama, a Pakistan-based LeT commander, wanted in many cases of extortion and terror related activities. ``We are awaiting more details from the spot where a police team is carrying out further investigation,'' Ahmed said. Security forces are combing the area for the escaped terrorist.

Update-------
Terrorists attack Jammu braveheart Rukhsana's house

PTI 31 October 2009, 11:10am IST

RAJOURI: In a revenge attack, militants tonight hurled two grenades at the house of Rukhsana Kausar, the woman who shot into national limelight by
taking on armed terrorists of Lashar-e-Taiba and killing one of them, but she was not present there at the time of the incident. ( Watch Video )

Rajouri district collector S Jaipal Singh said the terrorists hurled grenades at Rukhsana's house in Rajouri district but neither she nor any member of her family was present there when the attack took place.

"Rukhsana and her family members are at a very safe place," he said.

Police said the terrorists hurled two grenades and opened fire at Rukhsana's house at Bhatti, a remote hamlet in Shadra-Sharief belt of Rajouri district at 10.45 pm.

The grenades missed and exploded away from the house, they said adding that later the militants fired from a hill top and escaped under the cover of darkness.

There was no casualty or injury to anyone in the firing and grenade attacks at her house, located about 217 km from Jammu.

Earlier the 21-year-old girl and her family members were shifted to the high security police colony, where a government quarter has been allotted to them on October 7, police said.

The targeting of Rukhsana's house came a little more than a month after she killed a top Pakistani militant of the LeT and injured another on the night of September 27.

Along with her 18-year-old brother Aijaz, she overpowered the terrorists who had barged into their house, snatched an AK 47 from one of them and fired at him, killing him on the spot. Her parents Noor Hussain and Rashida were injured in the incident.

The bravery of Rukhsana, who had never picked up a gun before the September 27 incident, came in for praise from President Pratibha Patil and home minister P Chidambaram during their visits to Jammu and Kashmir.

Braveheart Rukhsana is now a cop :)

JAMMU: Teenager Rukhsana Kausar who became a hero after she fought and killed a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist last month has been made a special police
officer (SPO).

The Jammu & Kashmir police also recruited Rukhsana's brother Aijaz and uncle Wakalat Hussain as special police officers along with her, sources said on Monday.

The three had taken on a group of terrorist who entered their home in Rajouri district on September 27 and had axed one of them, later identified as LeT commander Abu Osama, to death.

Police denied reports that Rukhsana's family had moved to New Delhi from Jammu because of security reasons. Rajouri SSP Shaffaqat Wattali said Rukhsana and her brother visited New Delhi only to attend a function organised by the All India Anti-Terrorist Front.

Wattali said the new three special police officers would be assigned duties once they return from New Delhi. "They are under terrorist threat, so their deployment will be based on this fact."
