SA Murugesan, Ardh Kumbh Mela administration officer in charge, today chaired a meeting of civic bodies of the four districts in which the mela zone is spread.
Representatives and officials of Haridwar Municipal Corporation, Pauri Garhwal (Swargashram) Nagar Panchayat, Tehri Garhwal (Dev Prayag, Muni-Ki-Reti) Nagar Panchayat and Dehradun (Rishikesh) Municipal Committee attended the meeting.
Murugesan directed the representatives of the civic bodies to ensure civic amenities in their respective areas, as festive baths were to be held in the coming months of the Ardh Kumbh.
“Cleanliness, water supply, electricity supply and sanitation should be given major impetus during the mela. Already, funds have been released to civic bodies for this purpose, but if any civic body needs more, it should apprise the mela administration prior to the festive baths,” said Murugesan.
He also directed Haridwar Chief Town officer Vipra Trivedi of ensuring cleaning of all drainages and nullahs in the city, prior to first bath in February. Murugesan said funds had been provided for procurement of necessary equipment for the purpose.
He expressed unhappiness over the slow speed of works being done by Nagar Panchayat of Dev Prayag. He directed the executive engineer to complete the process of floating tenders in a week’s time and apprise him about it, so that the construction work could start as early as possible.
The officer in charge also stressed on quality of works, for which he directed the civic representatives to ensure submission of quality certificate of the works done.
He also asked officials to review the quality and norms prescribed for construction of barricades and inner roads at temporary bus stations, as prima facie they did not look as per the standard norms.
Additional mela officer Dr MS Bisht, Haridwar Roorkee Development Authority secretary Nidhi Yadav, Joint Magistrate Mayur Dixit, Vandana Singh, deputy mela officer Avdesh Kumar Singh, Devendra Singh Negi, mela officer (health) Dr Jang Pangi and nodal officers of various departments were also attended the meeting.
