Get rid of winter, and you will have cool summer thanks to the Punjab State Power Corporation is putting in place a mechanism to check cuts effectively.
Chairman-cum-Managing Director of the Power Com KD Choudhary said that keeping in view the next summer period, especially the paddy season, the corporation has started making adequate arrangements for the proper availability and supply of power during that very period.
He stated that as now with the onset of the winter the demand of power has registered a steep decline thus leaving the corporation power surplus. He said that as the things become comfortable so that the corporation has started its operation of banking of surplus power with other States, those have committed to return.
He said that the corporation is returning 70 lakh units of power to Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir daily as it has received the power from these States during the summer to meet out its jumbo demand because of the paddy transplantation.
He said that without this the corporation has also started banking with other States too included Uttaranchal, Rajasthan and Tamil Naidu and supplying them 90 lakh units of power, that is surplus with the State at presently with a commitment that these States will return it to Punjab during the summer.
The chairman also claimed that on the thermal front the corporation has been enjoying well as the thermal plants have performed up to the mark and even contributed power beyond to their capacities creating records. He said that now the corporation has decided to go for the annual maintenance of some of the units of these thermal plants keeping in view the power demand and other scenario.
