Buoyed after the rally addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Rishikesh last week, BJP parliamentarian from Haridwar Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has claimed that the party would come to power in the 2017 Assembly elections.
On the sidelines of a party function, the Haridwar parliamentarian termed the PM’s rally as one which had sent a message all over that people wanted BJP in the state too and the popularity of state Chief Minister Harish Rawat was fast fading.
Citing good, development-oriented governance at the Centre being provided by PM Modi-led NDA Government and failure of the Congress-led state government, Nishank said the public had made its mind already, which was reflected by the huge response Modi’s rally got from the masses.
Referring to the constant opposition and boycott by Congress during monsoon session of the parliament, Nishank said Congress was playing negative politics and did not have any issue to corner NDA Government so it resorted to such tactics.
“Baseless allegations and issues were raised against External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shiv Raj Chauhan and Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje by Congress during the monsoon session in and outside the Parliament. Several important bills remained pending and new laws could not be enacted, only due to negative politics of the Congress. This is the reason why during 2009 parliamentary elections it had 206 odd seats in the lower house but plummeted to a meager 45 in the 2015 Lok Sabha poll,” Nishank, a former Chief Minister, said.
He urged party workers to start preparing for the Assembly elections as less than two years were left.
“We need to mobilise our grassroots-level workers as well as office-bearers in the state, district, division, city, block and village unit. We need to propagate the development being done by NDA Government as well as works done during the BJP-led state government from 2007-12,” Nishank added.
