When it comes to BitTorrent applications for Mac platform, the choice is undeniably much poorer than that for Windows. However, things are changing in this direction, offering Mac users such great file-sharing clients as Transmission and uTorrent for downloads. Today the team of great applications is joined by another alternative: Folx, which is able to manage the downloads of any types, including torrents, supporting Mac OS X 10.4, 10.5, and 10.6.

Actually, Folx was released back in 2010, introducing itself as an all-around instrument acting both as a torrent application and as an online download manager. The client is packed with all necessary features and offers a neat Macish interface. The only reason of the client to be not that widely popular is that the developers only offer basic version for free, while charging $20 for an advanced one. The things changed when the team started to send out their keys for advanced version for free as part of their marketing campaign.

Meanwhile, the user-friendliness of the application, which only weighs 9.2 Mb, is mostly aimed at the less tech-savvy users, because the client skips some steps of the common downloading process. For example, if with the other applications you have to first find the needed .torrent file online, download it to your hard drive, open it with your torrent application and only after all that start downloading, with Folx you will only need to double-click the needed torrent to make the client download it and offer you its content automatically.

Folx offers basic features like selecting the number of transfers and proxy servers and controls the download speed. In addition, it enables a tagging system and assigned download folders in order to simplify organizing all your files. It also enables you to add new tags to the existing ones if you want. The download speed can be checked at any time in the system tray. That is all about free version.

If you want to upgrade to the Pro version (which will cost you $20), the client will acquire new benefits like built-in torrent search and downloads scheduler. Another interesting feature is called “smart speed adjustment” – the client will automatically adjust the torrent download speed when you are using the web at the same time for other activities. In fact, it allocates the traffic by splitting downloads in ten threads.
