Nation pays tribute to Gandhi
New Delhi: India yesterday paid homage to the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi with prayer meetings and floral tributes on 63rd anniversary of his death, observed as Martyrs' Day.
It was on January 30, 1948 that Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated in New Delhi.
The day commenced with two minutes' silence at 11am, followed by prayer meetings at the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
Hundreds of students chanted devotional songs at the prayer meeting organised by the Rajghat Samadhi Committee in the capital.
