Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today directed the executing agencies not to miss deadlines in the completion of various ongoing projects in the health, education, tourism and other connected sectors in the city.
He issued directions to the Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) Department to expedite work on the realignment of irrigation canal and shifting of utilities which would facilitate early execution of work on the much-needed expansion of the Jammu Airport runway.
He issued these instructions while conducting an extensive tour of the winter capital to take firsthand appraisal of the ongoing developmental projects.
The Chief Minister, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh, inspected the work on the new Legislature Complex, dental college and maternity hospitals, Bikram Chowk flyover, Jammu Ropeway, Nikki Tawi Bridge, Artificial Lake and realignment of the irrigation canal near Belicharana.
During his visit, Mufti first inspected the under-construction new Legislature Complex, which is being constructed by the Jammu and Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation (JKPCC) at a cost of Rs 160 crore.
Being constructed over an area of 2.65 lakh sq ft, the six-storey Legislature Complex would be connected to the civil secretariat by an aerobridge and will house the new Legislative Assembly, Legislative Council and their secretariats.
Mufti also reviewed progress of work on the realignment of the irrigation canal and construction of an alternative road from the national highway to the Nikki Tawi via Belicharana to pave way for extension of the Jammu Airport runway.
He was informed that the realignment of the irrigation canal would be completed by December 2016. The project is being executed at a cost of Rs 59.80 crore by the I&FC Department. Similarly, the work on the alternative road connectivity to the Nikki Tawi is being executed at a cost of Rs 22 crore.
The execution of these projects would enable the Airport Authority of India to initiate the work on the extension of the Jammu Airport runway by another 1,300 feet, which is considered to be a critical requirement in the upgrade of the airport.
The Chief Minister also received a briefing by the Managing Director, JKPCC, on the Nikki Tawi bridge, which is being constructed at a cost of Rs 27 crore. The bridge, which will provide much-needed connectivity to people residing nearby, is slated to be completed by June 2017.
Immediately after his arrival at the Bikram Chowk flyover, being executed by the J&K Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA), Mufti was briefed about broad contours of the project, which is being constructed at a cost of Rs 72 crore.
He was informed that nearly 50 per cent progress has been achieved on the project, which has been taken up under the Asian Development Bank (ADB)-funded J&K Urban Sector Development Investment Programme (USDIP). It is scheduled for completion by December 2016.
