Former Minister and senior Congress leader Ajay Yadav today said he was not against granting reservation to any community. The minister has always remained at the centre of controversies related to the extension of reservation to the dominating Jat community in the state.
Yadav was on a visit to Bhiwani to exhort workers to increase the party membership drive.
“If the government does not tinker with existing 27 per cent OBC quota and grant reservation to Jats, then I have no objection in it,” said Yadav.
Recalling former Prime Minister late Chaudhary Charan Singh, he said the Ahir community had always believed in brotherhood and supported the veteran Jat leader Singh in forming the government on the basis of the Ahir, Jat, Gujjar and Rajput formula.
Blaming the state BJP government for the current fiasco, he said the ruling regime had been playing with the sentiments of the specific community to get an upper hand in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections scheduled for next year.
“What an ironic situation, first the government registers a criminal case against UP Jat leader Yashpal Malik for doing any unlawful activity, then it engages him in negotiations to end the dharnas,” he said.
He paid his respects to former Chief Minister Bansi Lal and said he was a great administrator and laid the foundation stone for several welfare activities during his stint as the Chief Minister.
