Marjeevra Sikhs group marches from Takht Damdama Sahib, arrested

Talwandi Sabo: What could have been an aggressive and forceful way of making a point and bringing the national lime light on a fraudster who is intent upon provoking a peace loving community into ugly public squabbles has been reduced to a marginal happening in the state. As the Akali Dal finds ways of reaching out to the Dera Sirsa head Gurmit Ram Rahim and SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal making it clear that he will indeed ask for votes of the dera followers in complete defiance of the Akal Takht hukumnama, the radical Sikh groups continued to dig their heels and went ahead with the plans to send Marjeevra Sikhs to Salabatpura to shut down the fraudulent dera. Though it is clear that in the given circumstances, the protests have been reduced to a mere side show and that the police are under strict instructions not to allow even a democratic form of protest as Akalis do not want to annoy the Dera Sirsa, the Sikh groups did send a group of 11 from Takht Damdama Sahib.
The group was arrested near Maur Mandi, where a check post was set up with heavy deployment of police force. Before the group started its journey after an ardas at the Takht Damdama Sahib, the Marjeevre Sikhs were honoured with siropas. Gurtej Singh Ghasokhana headed the jatha.
Bhai Daljeet Singh Bittu, president of the SAD (Panch Pardhani), Avtar Singh, Baljinder Singh of the Ek Noor Khalsa Fauj, Sukhwinder Singh of the Haryana Satkar Sabha, Hardeep Singh Mehraj, regional convener of the Khalsa Action Committee, were among those who addressed the gathering in the gurdwara complex.
A case was registered under Sections 107 and 151 of the CrPC. Immediately after the case was registered, all marchers, including the driver of the jeep, were sent to Central Jail, Bathinda, in judicial custody till March 31.
Meanwhile, the radicals said: “We knew all about this but being committed over the decision, we had sent them. Even on the next Sunday, a group would be sent. The practice will be repeated till the dera Salabatpura, Punjab headquarters of the Dera Sacha Sauda sect, is shut down.”
Ironically, while the panthic groups claim they are trying to implement the May 17, 2007 edict of the Akal Takht as per which the Sikhs are duty bound to get shut the deras in Punjab, the current Akal Takht jathedar sees them as flouting a later directive of his which asked everyone to suspend all protests till after the elections in Punjab.
