Chandigarh March 27:

CPI general secretary A B Bardhan did not rule out the possibility of Left parties joining hands with former Punjab Finance Minister and expelled Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Manpreet Singh Badal who will float his new party today.

''We will consider all possibilities,'' he said while talking to reporters here. Mr Bardhan said Mr Manpreet Badal's break up from the SAD was a positive development. ''His announcement to float a secular party is also a welcome step.'' He said Mr Manpreet Badal could instrumental in providing an alternative to the bipolar polity of Punjab with SAD-BJP and Congress taking turns to rule the state.

However, nothing could be said at this time. ''We will wait and watch. Let's see what kind of party and agenda he comes with.'' The CPI leader admitted that the traditional left bases in Punjab had eroded but expressed the hope that the people would look for an alternative, having been disappointed with both the SAD-BJP combine and the Congress.
