MUMBAI:

A private firm employee, who was taking Rs 15 lakh to deliver it to someone, was attacked and robbed of the amount while he was travelling in an auto on the Western Express highway near Andheri (east).

The suspect who was in another auto suddenly lunged forward and attacked the victim with a knife before fleeing with his money. The police suspect that the auto drivers were involved as the incident occurred even as the duo started fighting over overtaking.

The victim, Kartik Parikh (52), who sustained injuries on his neck was shifted to hospital by a television journalist, Iqbal Mamdani, who was passing by on his motorcycle. He also informed the police about the incident.

Parikh, who works in an office in Borivli, was taking the money to deliver it to a person at Andheri (W). As his auto reached near the Western Express Highway, another auto overtook it, the police said. Both the auto drivers stopped their vehicles and started accusing each other over rash driving. As he was getting late, Parikh stepped out of his auto and requested his driver to stop fighting, the police added.

Suddenly, the accused, who was sitting in the other auto, came out and started tugging at Parikh’s bag. He then attacked Parikh with a knife and fled with the bag in the auto, the police said.

Screaming in pain, Parikh asked his auto driver to take him to hospital, but the latter told him that the accused had allegedly thrown chilly powder into his eyes and so he could not drive, the police said. Later, the driver also fled, leaving Parikh alone on the road. The police said they were trying to trace the auto driver to get a lead into the case.
