Man held with heroin worth `5 cr in Amritsar

Punjab Police seized one kg heroin worth `5 crore as per the international black market with the arrest of accused Angrej Singh.

SHO Kathunangal Preet Inder Singh confirming the seizure here said that he along with his colleague sub-inspector Jagjit Singh Chahal arrested Angrej Singh on the tip-off when he was travelling in his Maruti car.

Drug was recovered when the Maruti car was intercepted and during frisking of accused Angrej Singh, drug was found tied around his waist. Police said during interrogation accused also confessed 3 kg smack (inferior quality of heroin) having worth `4 lakh which was recovered from his residence.

Since smack has good consumption in the rural Amritsar belt due to its cheap price. Accused confessed during the prolonged session of interrogation that drug was smuggled from Pakistan to India. Accused purchased 1 kg drug from the international smuggler to further sell it off in the local market to college going youth. Accused sell drug to local youth in small packets of 2 grams.

Accused admitted that there was enormous demand of drug among youth in order to enhance the stamina and long duration during sex. Police said that main accused who had directly got smuggled drug to India from Pakistan yet to be arrested.
