Ludhiana October 3:
Twenty-four hours after the security guard of the cremation ground of Lalton village was found dead, the police claimed to have solved the murder with the arrest of his son.
Gurdeep Singh, 30, was arrested from the Daad village bus stand late on Wednesday evening. Gurdeep told the police that Atma Singh, 60, wanted to establish illicit relations with his wife. Irked, he decided to kill his father. Atma Singh was murdered on the intervening night of September 29 and 30.
Gurmeet Singh Randhawa, Superintendent of Police (SP), City II, said the police had established Gurdeep’s involvement in the murder during preliminary investigations, following which he was arrested. He added that on September 29, Atma Singh tried to molest his daughter-in-law, an incident which Gurdeep witnessed. He decided to kill his father thereafter, the SP said.
Gurdeep told the police that Atma Singh had the similar intentions for his other son’s wife, after which the latter had shifted to Ludhiana. On the intervening night of September 29 and 30, when Atma Singh was alone in the village cremation ground, Gurdeep first beat him up and then stabbed him with a sword. The police are yet to recover the murder weapon, the SP said.
