The Maharashtra government today handed over the probe into the murder of Sheena Bora to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Maharashtra Home Secretary KP Bakshi told mediapersons that the CBI would now probe the case.
Bakshi denied that the transfer of former Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria had anything to do with investigations into the murder. He further added that the crime would not be treated as another murder since there were financial links as well.
Earlier in the day, there were reports of Mumbai Police Commissioner Ahmed Javed’s links with Sheena’s mother Indrani Mukerjee who has been arrested for the murder. Bakshi said Javed had excused himself from supervising the probe and it was one of the reasons for the state government to hand it over to the CBI.
