The story of the movie is about a widow Mridula Chatterjee who runs an NGO for physically disabled people in the city of Kolkata and she is visited by her grandson Rohan whom she brought up alone without anybodies help. Rohan has been studying in the law school of Bangalore and he once tries to enquire about his grandmother about her life.
Mridula talks about her life to her grandson. Her remembers all her college life, university, the problems she faced after her place was hit by Naxalities. She used to write poetry and she was in love with Aftaab Jaffrey but her love couldn’t get to a final conclusion for the communal problems and differences. She gets into an arranged marriage and her husband dies too early after marriage when she was pregnant.
She talks of her daughter Palaash who selects to become a singer in a night club and difference between mother and daughter erupt over her profession. Her daughter got married to the drummer in the night club, Dev and then Mridula goes to find out about her place.
She goes to the rural areas in search of her past memories and she finds Aftaab Jaffrey who is married to a lady called Rabea. Rabea is alcoholic. Mridula tells about all her past to her grandson who wants to marry a girl Tara and they understand the choices they have to make in life from her experiences.
